How valuable the hospice is → Callum's story

Callum

Callum has undiagnosed hypertonia and is oxygen dependent. He gets lots of chest infections and pneumonias. Callum can’t feed himself, and sometimes he finds breathing hard, which means he has to go into hospital quite a lot.

Callum has been coming to Bluebell Wood since last December and he loves visiting. He enjoys it when the care team sing Baa Baa Black Sheep to him, he likes rough and tumble, silly noises, and he is always smiling. Callum also loves cuddles, and he gets lots at Bluebell Wood.

When Callum stays at Bluebell Wood, he has his own special room which has oxygen in for him. We try and make him really comfortable, so he brings all his own things from his room at home with him.

When Callum is here, he likes to play in the sensory room, go in the Jacuzzi (he loves the bubbles!) and bounce on the trampoline. His little sister thinks it’s a lot of fun here too with all the toys to play with, so Callum often brings his mum, grandma and sister when he comes to stay.

Callum’s mum explains what Bluebell Wood means to her family.

“We have had a lot of help from Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and absolutely adore every single person there; the place is amazing and had given me and my family something to look forward to and have a break. Callum loves it so much; he is actually spending his birthday at Bluebell Wood this year. We can't wait as it will also be his first birthday not spent in hospital”
